Saturday, July 27 23:20 ‧ 1u 20m

Isa Guha and Mark Chapman recap the headlines from day one in Paris as Great Britain sought to make a medal-winning start to an Olympic Games for the first time in 20 years. Welshman Josh Tarling was among the favourites in the men’s road cycling time trial, while world silver diving medallists Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen were vying to become Britain’s first female Olympic medallists in the sport since 1960. Four of the opening day’s 14 titles were decided in the swimming pool, including a 400m freestyle clash of the titans as defending champion Ariarne Titmus faced Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh. Another global star, Britain’s two-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty, sought a place in the 100m breaststroke final.
